Private health insurance

If you already have health insurance coverage through an individual, family, employer or government-sponsored (i.e., Medicaid) plan, you can submit a waiver to provide proof of coverage.

CU Boulder accepts most major health insurance plans for services on campus.

Once you have an approved waiver, you can enroll in our BuffCare supplemental coverage plan to reduce your out-of-pocket expenses for on-campus services.

Please note: Your waiver must be approved to use your insurance plan. If your waiver is denied, you will be automatically enrolled in the Anthem Gold SHIP and billed for the semester.

BuffCare insurance plan

Optional: BuffCare supplemental coverage

BuffCare is only available to students with private health insurance whose waiver has been approved.

BuffCare can reduce out-of-pocket costs for medical services provided on campus after your primary insurance has been billed.

BuffCare is a good option for all private insurance plans and can be especially helpful for those with high deductible, out-of-state or state-sponsored health insurance plans, such as Medicaid.
